What is a Kegel exercise?

Recommended by midwives, sexologists, or physiotherapists, pelvic floor rehabilitation leads to real awareness through different exercises.

Kegel exercises are simple movements that involve tightening and relaxing the lower abdominal muscles, the ones used to hold in urine. They help strengthen the pelvic floor, which can improve incontinence, support organs after childbirth, and even enhance sexual comfort. These exercises are discreet, easy to do anywhere, and beneficial for both women and men. Pelvic floor exercises can be continued for life, ideally doing 3 sets of 10 pelvic floor contractions per day. Here is an example:

  • Tighten the vaginal muscles as if you wanted to hold in the urge to urinate
  • Release

The contraction time of the pelvic floor should always correspond to half the rest time (I contract for 5 seconds, I release the contraction for 10 seconds).
